Successful Assimilation to Chinese

I am a Chinese Chinese, going to be a new freshman to study at La Trobe University, my major being linguistics; I want to be respected, surrounded by so many native speakers. In this so-called democratic nation, what has Australia done on equality of race and ethnics groups? I know that many Chinese born in Australia, they even do not think or recognize themselves are Chinese. If these yellow-faced and black-eyed Chinese Australians did so, should White Australians yourselves think what you did to these Australian born Chinese? Basically every time, when I ask an English-speaking Chinese who you are, they answer me that he or she was an Australian. How come? Could not it be said that it is a kind of successful assimilation? And it is a tradegy that a man does not admit his nature. What cannot be changed is one's gene.
